As far as I can glean, you're a(lso) a descendant of recent Revolutionaries, besides a poet of color intimate with queer politics, mysticism, the recluse lifestyle, and fashion. Do you think this generation needs to hone in on trends more dynamically for more influential flocking and demonstration? Do poets need to sing and dance more provocatively or something to get Kids thinking more proactively, instead of relying on established celebrities for direction?from brooklynharbeersheva
I have a strange perception of celebrity culture - maybe because I’ve been bred into it, or possibly because its appeal is inescapable…but I feel like celebrities are necessary to the contemporary pop culture and to what pop culture will be 40 years from now. It is impossible to not establish celebrities for direction because of all the media accessibility this generation is supplied with. I think that poets do not need to sing or dance more provocatively, but I think there is something to be said for the antagonist - the person who stops or starts a room. Ultimately, poets who want to reach children or youth will eventually run into some sort of celebratory experience because children always remember the people who impact them the most, especially if it happens consistently. I think a few poets as celebrities is so necessary, but we’ll see where it goes.
